New Pros fic - Christmas Morning

It's not much, just a trifle really and written in a short space of time this morning.  Hope you like it.

Bodie blinked as the bright morning sun broke its way through the curtains, bathing the room with a soft red glow.  He closed his eyes and turned his body away from the emerging daylight, wrapping the warm bedsheet more closely around him.  The unfamiliar bed creaked underneath him, and he held his breath, waiting for any sign that he had disturbed the person who was sleeping so soundly next to him.  He lay perfectly still, not daring to make any more movements that might wake him up, that would mean they had to talk, to look at each other - to remember.  Doyle, however, did not stir, completely oblivious to Bodie’s fidgeting.  Bodie let out a silent breath of relief and rested his head on the pillow, his back to the sun and the world outside.

He waited as his eyes adjusted to the dim light.  On the far wall above the closed door, the distorted shadow of an enormous sprig of mistletoe hovered and danced in the flickering light.  He looked up at the original, hanging innocently above the bed and flushed at the memory.  One measly sprig of mistletoe and he’d given in.  He’d let the seduction happen and allowed himself to be taken to the one place where there was no turning back.

He could feel the heat coming from the still body sleeping beside him, could see the dim outline of Doyle’s arm above the bedclothes.  Bodie swallowed drily.   Doyle’s hands on his body, Doyle’s mouth on top of his.  Doyle’s words whispered in his ear, echoing again and again inside his head…

Bodie kicked the bedsheet away from his feet and lifted the covers, rolling over towards the end of the bed.  One foot had nearly touched the floor when he felt a strong arm wrap itself around his waist, felt Doyle’s breath hot on his neck.

“Don’t go.”

Bodie froze, his foot hovering above the floorboards.  He didn’t answer, couldn’t find a single word to say in response.  Doyle spoke again, his voice soft and sleepy against Bodie’s shoulder.  “You can’t go - it’s Christmas.”

Bodie blinked and opened his mouth to reply.  There was no logic in Doyle’s statement, no sense in his argument whatsoever.  But the grip around his waist tightened, and the lips against his neck pressed a warm kiss under his ear.

Bodie lifted his foot into the bed, turned his body back towards the sunlight and into the waiting embrace.

It was Christmas, after all.

The last day of my Pros-y writing holiday has produced another fic, yay!  This was written this morning out of the prompt box, with each of us choosing a character and picking a prompt from the box that would somehow 'save' that character.  I chose Bodie and my prompt was a picture of a Christmas tree with lots of presents under it.  We then had an hour and a half to write something.  This is what I came up with!

Well done for writing such a lovely piece in such a short time. And if pubs can start advertising Christmas dinners in October, you can post Christmas fic. You can post fic as great as this any time you like, in fact.

(ps I hope this font isn't as tiny as it looks on my screen - it just came out that way.)

Actually, I think I may be late with this xmas fic, didn't the shops start advertising their xmas goods in August? :D Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you liked it. It was great fun to sit around the table and compare stories.

And the new layout is great, isn't it? Courtesay of byslantedlight, who even created a made to measure banner. Our boys are pretty. :D

Thank you very much, for the fic comment and the lj comment. Byslantedlight spruced up my lj for me while I looked on in awe. I do feel very pretty now. :D

Thank you, I'm glad I was able to make you smile. I love snuggly lads, too, it would have been too much of a shame to disturb them!

ooh, prompt box ... well done! I'm very impressed. I was eyeing that box warily all weekend *g* And this is lovely.

One foot had nearly touched the floor when he felt a strong arm wrap itself around his waist, felt Doyle’s breath hot on his neck.

“Don’t go.”

Great moment! The whole thing gave me the warm fuzzies, so thank you!

I know what you mean, I had a healthy fear of the prompt box as well. Still, they do say it's better to face your fears head on! Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you liked it, fuzzy girl. :D

I think you did a fine job with your story. I liked it. Bodie unsure, and Doyle inviting him to stay. Nice!
foreverfoxcat From: foreverfoxcat Date: 1st October 2009 20:53 (UTC) (Link)
Thank you! I was a bit unsure, because I wrote it in quite a short time and I usually take aaages to write anything, so I'm pleased that it came out ok and that you liked it, thank you. :D

Gorgeous warm and snuggly fic -- just what I needed after a long day at work!

And yay for the prompt box *g*.

The prompt box rules! Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you liked it. Boo that you had to go to work. We're all leaving tomorrow morning and I don't want to face the real world again.

I think you've got another lovely winner here! (And the other side of the seasonal coin?!)

Again, I'm bowled over by the beautiful writing and imagery:

He waited as his eyes adjusted to the dim light. On the far wall above the closed door, the distorted shadow of an enormous sprig of mistletoe hovered and danced in the flickering light. He looked up at the original, hanging innocently above the bed and flushed at the memory. One measly sprig of mistletoe and he’d given in.

....and I loved the way Bodie finally overcame his reluctance to repeat the events of the night before! Very nice, thank you.

Thank you again for such a lovely comment, you've really got me grinning like an idiot here. I'm really glad you liked it, I've never been able to write something in such a short time before so I'm ever so pleased that you think it came out well, thank you.

“You can’t go - it’s Christmas.”

Mmmmhhh....! There IS logic in that statement!!!
A perfect use of one and a half hour!
foreverfoxcat From: foreverfoxcat Date: 1st October 2009 21:06 (UTC) (Link)
Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it. And yes, I do think there is logic in Doyle's thinking - somewhere!
draycevixen From: draycevixen Date: 1st October 2009 21:47 (UTC) (Link)

Doyle's arm around his waist and that hovering foot are great details and I really like the way Doyle dismisses Doyle's comment as lacking logic and reason but then results to the same "argument for staying.

It's a lovely little thing inducing warm fuzzy feelings so thank you for that! :D

Thank you very much, I'm glad I was able to bring on the fuzziness. :D

I was holding my breath for a minute there, wondering if Bodie would sneak off while Doyle was asleep, but it turned out all right in the end. Very sweet! I love the imagery of them both tucked up in bed together.
foreverfoxcat From: foreverfoxcat Date: 2nd October 2009 14:56 (UTC) (Link)
Never fear, I would never let Bodie sneak out on Doyle. Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you liked it. Bless 'em, they are cute aren't they?
